President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law prohibiting parents from beating their children in the process of upbringing. According to information on the Lex.uz website, the document will come into force on May 15, 2025.
The law «On protection of children from all forms of violence» establishes measures to protect the rights and interests of minors. In particular, it states that «methods of raising children should exclude neglectful, cruel, rude, degrading human dignity treatment, abuse, or exploitation of children».
The document also prohibits the use of corporal punishment and other forms of violence at school.
In this case, the forms of violence include:
✅ physical;
✅ psychological;
✅ sexual;
✅ lack of care;
✅ exploitation;
✅ bullying.
At the same time, an affected child has the right to contact authorized bodies or the court, receive free legal, economic, social, and medical assistance in special centers or through a hotline.
The National Social Protection Agency plays a major role in preventing violence against children. It ensures the operation of a 24-hour call center for receiving complaints, as well as identifies victims of violence, keep records, etc.
The law prescribes a mechanism for providing a child with a restraining order. It is indicated that the document is issued by internal affairs bodies for up to 30 days, it is handed over to the victim or the legal representative of the minor. If the threat has not been eliminated, the court can extend the validity of the protection order for one year.
