By the end of 2025, the poverty rate in Tashkent Region must decrease from 7.2% to 4%. This directive was issued by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a December 10 meeting with regional leadership.
The president emphasized that Tashkent Region has the capacity to significantly improve the incomes of its population. He outlined the following goals for the coming year:
👉 Ensure employment for 700,000 people,
👉 Reduce unemployment to its natural rate,
👉 Lift 22,000 families out of poverty,
👉 Provide jobs for labor migrants returning from abroad.
The meeting highlighted the region's vast potential across industries, agriculture, services, and tourism. Over the past seven years, the region’s economy has grown by 1.5 times, and the number of industrial enterprises has doubled to 12,000. However, only 25% of agricultural land is currently utilized, signaling inefficiencies in resource management.
Next year, the region plans to harvest crops three times annually on 52,000 hectares and establish industrial orchards on 5,000 hectares. In 22 districts and cities, land will be integrated with processing and export enterprises. This initiative is expected to yield 3.5 million tons of fruit and vegetables, with exports projected to reach $500 million.
Zoyir Mirzayev, the hokim (governor) of Tashkent Region, presented plans to attract $5 billion in investments and increase exports to $2 billion by 2025.
