Mirziyoyev Orders the Creation of a Military Unit to Combat Drones and Cyber Forces

Uzbekistan's armed forces will establish new units dedicated to combating drones, deploying robots, air defense, as well as cyber structures utilizing artificial intelligence technologies. This directive was given to the relevant officials by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as reported by his press service.

These instructions are part of a series of priority tasks for the current and upcoming years, which were discussed on February 21 at a National Security Council meeting focused on strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

The president emphasized that, when planning the army’s development, it is crucial to account for modern warfare and the specifics of military theaters. In particular, attention should be paid to the widespread use of artificial intelligence, robotic systems, missiles, drones, and countermeasures.

In addition to the creation of new units, Mirziyoyev ordered the development of a unified automated military command system and the adoption of modern methods in training military personnel.

At the Security Council meeting, the following areas were also outlined: improving the activities of the Corps of Senior Sergeants, which is a key pillar of Uzbekistan’s army, further developing the defense industry, social support for military personnel and their families, promoting patriotism among youth, and encouraging citizens to participate in military sports.

The Supreme Commander-in-Chief noted that the army is currently being equipped with modern weaponry and equipment, with significant improvements in the combat and moral-psychological training of soldiers and officers. The state is striving to ensure the social protection of military personnel, with approximately 30,000 families receiving housing, and over 2,000 children benefiting from tuition benefits for entering universities.

The military-industrial complex (MIC) is also developing, with new enterprises emerging in the country. The Ministry of Defense continues to strengthen international cooperation, with bilateral ties established with more than 20 countries, and the Uzbek army has participated in over 400 joint exercises.

According to the President's press service, on February 21, Mirziyoyev also visited the Innovative Technologies Center of the Defense Industry Agency, where he familiarized himself with cutting-edge developments and dual-purpose products.

It is noted that the Center manufactures around 80 types of military equipment and supports start-up projects related to robotics and the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The head of the republic emphasized that these are just the first steps and that work must continue to develop the MIC and increase the competitiveness of domestic enterprises in the global market.

Additionally, according to the agency, Uzbekistan is actively participating in international specialized exhibitions. For example, at the ongoing IDEX-2025 exhibition in the UAE (from February 17-21), more than 100 units of military equipment are being showcased. Among the exhibits are the “Arslon 8x8” and “Arslon 6x6” armored personnel carriers, as well as the “Tufon” self-propelled howitzer, which have generated significant interest among international partners.
