Debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle was discovered in the Zhanibek District of the West Kazakhstan Region, marking the third such incident in recent months, according to Orda.kz.
Initial reports of an unidentified drone crash in the area surfaced on the evening of March 24. By the following morning, the regional police department announced that it was investigating “the discovery of objects resembling fragments of an unmanned aerial vehicle.”
“The object was found in a remote area, far from populated settlements,” the department said.
Zhanibek District borders Russia’s Volgograd and Saratov regions. Recently, Ukrainian drones targeted Saratov, striking an airfield in the city of Engels.
This is the third drone to crash in Kazakhstan in recent months, with officials yet to confirm its origin. Earlier in March, a drone was found in the Taskalinsky District of the West Kazakhstan Region. In February, another unmanned aircraft crashed in the Bokeyorda District. Following that incident, authorities opened an investigation under Article 399 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code, which pertains to the illegal manufacture, production, acquisition, sale, or use of special technical equipment for covert information gathering. However, Uralskaya Nedelya reports that police have yet to provide any updates on the investigation.
