Uzbekistan's CEC Accredits Nearly 100 Journalists and Over 300 Observers

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan has accredited 97 foreign media journalists and 325 observers from foreign states and international organizations to cover the upcoming parliamentary and local elections, according to the CEC press service.

The accreditation figures were announced during a commission meeting. The election coverage has been officially authorized for 97 representatives from 82 media outlets across 37 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, and China.

Observer Breakdown

  • 236 members of the OSCE/ODIHR mission
  • 13 representatives from other international organizations
  • 76 observers from 25 different countries

Accreditation Process

According to CEC Resolution No. 952 dated October 5, 2019, media organizations must submit accreditation requests no later than ten days before the election. This year, the accreditation process was conducted online through the E-Saylov information system to streamline procedures and reduce paperwork. The application deadline was October 16, after which the final list of journalists with official polling station access was compiled.

Election Details

The elections for the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan and local councils are scheduled for October 27, 2024. Voters will elect:

  • 150 deputies to the lower house of parliament
  • 65 deputies to the Jokargy Kenes (Parliament) of Karakalpakstan
  • Representatives to regional councils, including the Tashkent city council and 208 district (city) councils
