President Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan has signed a decree pardoning 276 convicts, an act timed to coincide with International Neutrality Day, observed on December 12, Turkmenistaninfo.gov.tm reports.

“The pardon is part of an annual noble tradition aimed at restoring justice and humanizing the judicial system,” the publication noted.

Those pardoned include individuals who expressed remorse for their crimes. They will be released from further imprisonment.

ℹ️ Turkmenistan regularly conducts pardon initiatives. Presidential decrees are typically issued ahead of significant events, such as the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr), Neutrality Day, and Independence Day. In September this year, to mark the 33rd anniversary of the country’s independence, Berdimuhamedow pardoned 736 convicts. Over the past several years, more than 20,000 individuals have been released under presidential pardons.
