The construction of an air harbor based on the Tashkent-Vostochny airfield near Uzbekistan’s capital, which began in 2017, has been completed. On August 27, the country’s president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited the new aviation complex, his press service reported.
Tashkent-Vostochny is a large-scale strategic project that was implemented despite many challenges, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility has become an example of the country’s efforts to develop its transport infrastructure.
The airport covers an area of 561 hectares. The 4-kilometer runway and three taxiways have been completely reconstructed, making it possible to accommodate even the heaviest aircraft. The new apron is designed for 20 aircraft. Hangars have also been built for the safe storage of helicopters, business jets, and airliners, including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A320, under optimal conditions.
The air harbor is equipped with modern VIP and CIP terminals. The hall for high-ranking guests is intended for official receptions, negotiations, and briefings. The CIP terminal, capable of accommodating 100 passengers per hour, includes shops and dining areas.
Importantly, the airport is outfitted with state-of-the-art ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Category III-A radio navigation and meteorological systems. These technologies are designed to ensure safe takeoffs and landings even under adverse weather conditions.
Thanks to its convenient location, the new air harbor will become an important hub for Tashkent and the planned New Tashkent. The facility will expand opportunities for international visits and business travel. In addition, the service sector will receive an additional boost, creating new jobs.
“After long preparations, we built a new airport that will provide a high level of service for our country’s guests. This will ease the load on Tashkent International Airport. A large complex is also planned for construction in another location,” the president said.
The head of state regularly visited the construction site of the new aviation complex. For example, in June of this year, his press service reported that, after reviewing the project’s technical specifications and the architectural design of the terminals, he issued specific instructions to accelerate construction work.
In the past, the Tashkent-Vostochny airfield hosted the flight testing station of the Chkalov Aviation Plant (TAPOiCh) and military transport aviation. The decision to build a modern civil (business) aviation airport complex here was made in June 2017.
