President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov has instructed officials to introduce the death penalty for pedophiles and for cases of rape of women followed by murder, his press secretary Askat Alagozov announced.
“President Japarov directed Murat Ukushev, head of the Legal Support Department of the Presidential Administration, to draft amendments to the legislation providing for the toughest possible penalties for crimes against children, girls, and women. In particular, this includes introducing the death penalty for child rape, as well as for rape followed by the murder of women,” Alagozov said.
According to him, Japarov’s order was a response to the recent case of a 17-year-old girl from Karakol, who was raped and strangled at the end of September. The suspect, a previously convicted man born in 1984, was detained in Bishkek.
Japarov stressed that crimes against children and women must not go unpunished, Alagozov added. The president has taken the murder case under his personal supervision.
