Tajikistan and Uzbekistan intend to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion. The agreement was reached on February 17 in Dushanbe at the 13th session of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, attended by the two prime ministers, Khovar reported.
During the meeting, the sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade and investment, energy, industry, agriculture, transport, customs, education, and culture. Strengthening industrial cooperation was highlighted as one of the priority areas of joint activity. A protocol on the joint work of the intergovernmental commission was signed following the session.
According to the Tajik side, bilateral trade in 2025 reached $718.3 million, up 22.5% compared with 2024.
On the same day, Aripov met with Emomali Rahmon. According to the Tajik presidential press service, the talks focused on prospects for further development and expansion of Tajik–Uzbek relations based on strategic partnership and allied cooperation.
Plans to raise trade turnover to $2 billion were first announced in spring 2024 at an Uzbek–Tajik investment business forum in Dushanbe during the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan. At that time, it was noted that over the previous eight years bilateral trade had tripled to $750 million in 2023, and had grown by a further 40% since the beginning of 2024.
