President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed appointing Timur Ishmetov as Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank. The announcement was made by the President's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.

Two hours earlier, Asadov informed that Mirziyoyev had submitted a proposal to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) to relieve 64-year-old Mamarizo Nurmuratov from his position as head of the Central Bank. The reason for this decision was not provided. Nurmuratov was appointed to this role in 2017 following the death of Fayzulla Mullajanov, who had led the Central Bank for 26 years since 1991.

ℹ️ According to the law, the Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank is appointed to and dismissed from the position by the Senate upon the President’s recommendation.

On the same day, the Senate passed a resolution appointing Ishmetov as the head of the Central Bank.

👉 Timur Ishmetov, 45, graduated from the Finance and Credit Faculty of Tashkent Financial Institute (2000), obtained a master’s degree in International Money and Banking from the University of Birmingham (2005), and completed a law degree at Tashkent State University of Law (2007).

From 2017 to 2019, Ishmetov served as First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank. He was then appointed First Deputy Minister of Finance and served as Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan from 2020 to 2022. In December 2022, as part of the country’s administrative reforms, Ishmetov was relieved of his duties as Finance Minister and appointed First Deputy Presidential Advisor on economic development, investment policy, and foreign trade.
