President of Uzbekistan Appoints New Head of Jizzakh Region

Ergash Saliev has been relieved of his duties as hokim (governor) of the Jizzakh Region due to his transition to another position. The decree was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to the president’s press service.

Ulugbek Mustafayev, who previously headed Regional Electric Networks (RES) and the Uzbekenergo company, has been appointed Acting Hokim of the region.

Ergash Saliev had served as the hokim of Jizzakh Region since fall 2017, Gazeta.uz notes. Prior to that, he was hokim of the Arnasay and Pahtakor districts and headed the Bukhara Region.

👉 About Ulugbek Mustafayev: 56, graduated from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy in 1991. He served as Chairman of the RES Board from April 2019. Previously, he led Uzbekenergo before its restructuring into three companies.

In December 2022, Mustafayev, along with several other energy sector leaders, received a reprimand for inadequate preparation for the winter season. In January 2023, he was dismissed from his post but given three months to address the shortcomings as Acting Head of RES.

In August 2024, Mustafayev was awarded the title of «Honored Industrial Worker of Uzbekistan."
