Kyrgyzstan is working on establishing a branch of Russia’s multifunctional migration center «Sakharovo» (MMC), Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration Bakyt Darmankul uulu announced on January 31, Kaktus.Media reports.

The branch is set to open in the southern city of Osh. According to the deputy minister, two buildings were initially proposed to the Russian side, but neither met the required specifications.

«We have found another recently completed building, which they liked. We are now awaiting an official response. The issue will be resolved soon,» Darmankul uulu stated.

Minister of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration Ravshan Sabirov is scheduled to visit Moscow on February 20 to discuss the opening of the Sakharovo MMC branch and potential changes to Russia’s migration laws, the official added.

In addition to the MMC branch, Kyrgyzstan plans to open 10 pre-migration centers, which will be located within vocational schools across the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor is preparing for a potential mass return of Kyrgyz citizens from Russia, following tightened migration regulations.

According to Darmankul uulu, 72,000 Kyrgyz citizens currently residing in Russia without registration are at risk of deportation. If they fail to legalize their stay by April 30, they will be expelled from the country.

The ministry is also working to secure employment opportunities for Kyrgyz nationals in other countries.

In 2024, the state employment center sent 18,000 Kyrgyz workers abroad, spanning 28 countries, with the majority employed in the United Kingdom, South Korea, and the Gulf states.

The Sakharovo Multifunctional Migration Center (MMC) opened in January 2016. It provides work permits, temporary residence permits (TRP), residence permits (RP), and Russian citizenship for foreign nationals seeking employment in Moscow.

Adjacent to the MMC is the Sakharovo Temporary Detention Center (CVSIG), where migrants who violate Russian residency rules are held.
