European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas will visit Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan this week, according to a press release published on the EU’s diplomatic service website.
Kallas's tour will begin on March 27 in Turkmenistan, where she will chair the 20th EU–Central Asia Ministerial Meeting in Ashgabat. The event will bring together representatives from all five post-Soviet republics of the region.
The agenda includes preparations for the first-ever EU–Central Asia summit, scheduled for April 3–4 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Other topics for discussion in Ashgabat will cover a broad spectrum of issues, including the regional impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, transport and digital connectivity, critical raw materials, energy and water resources, trade, education, and more.
In Turkmenistan’s capital, Kallas will hold bilateral talks with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, as well as Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
The European Commission representative will then travel to Tashkent for meetings with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.
On March 28, Kallas is set to arrive in Kazakhstan, where she will meet with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu.
