Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a treaty on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on March 25, according to the presidential press service.

On the same day, agreements between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were ratified regarding the construction and use of highways, the development and joint use of a road intersection, and access to water and energy infrastructure.

The border treaty was initially signed by the presidents of both countries on March 13, when they also reopened long-closed border checkpoints. Kyrgyzstan’s parliament approved the treaty on March 19.

The agreements were signed during Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s state visit to Kyrgyzstan on March 13. The first agreement ensures the free movement of citizens, vehicles, and goods between the two nations and includes the construction of two neutral-status highways:

👉 Dacha – Kapchygay (bypassing Kapchygay), to be used by Tajikistan.

👉 Min-Oruk – Samarkandek (bypassing Surkh), to be used by Kyrgyzstan.

Additionally, the two countries plan to jointly develop and share access to the intersection of the Osh – Razzakov and Isfara – Vorukh highways, ensuring equal usage rights for both nations.

The second agreement guarantees unhindered access to essential water and energy facilities for operational purposes. It also proposes the joint management of the Ak-Tatyr/Machoi dam and its primary water intake structure.

ℹ️ On March 13, Japarov and Rahmon reaffirmed their commitment to signing a trilateral agreement with Uzbekistan on the exact meeting point of their national borders. The signing is expected to take place on March 31 during a summit of the three countries’ leaders in Khujand.
