Islamic Development Bank to Provide Uzbekistan With $40 Million Grant for Education Reform

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will provide the government of Uzbekistan with a $40 million grant to support projects in the education sector. The agreement was signed during the Human Capability Initiative 2025 forum, currently taking place in Saudi Arabia, according to Hilola Umarova, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Preschool and School Education.

According to Minister Umarova, IsDB President Muhammad Al Jasser expressed his organization’s satisfaction in partnering with the Uzbek government to help create better educational opportunities for future generations.

Following the talks, the parties also signed a grant agreement under the Global Partnership for Education initiative. Key components of the project include:

✅ construction of 58 inclusive schools across the country;
✅ equipping schools with modern educational technology;
✅ implementation of professional development programs for teachers;
✅ advancement of inclusive education practices;
✅ improvement of school curricula;
✅ enhancement of preschool education quality.

Umarova noted that the forum, held in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, is taking place under the patronage of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The event brings together participants from around the world to discuss pressing issues in education, economics, technology, and innovation.

The minister added that Uzbekistan is the only Central Asian country invited to participate in the forum.
