Uzatom, Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI have signed an agreement to establish an «Advanced Engineering School» at the university’s Tashkent branch. The new institution will train specialists for Uzbekistan’s nuclear industry, according to a statement from Uzatom’s press service.

The trilateral agreement was signed on May 15 during a meeting between university officials and delegations from Uzatom and Rosatom, led respectively by Uzatom Director Azim Akhmedkhodjaev and Rosatom Deputy Director General for Human Resources Tatyana Terentyeva.

The main focus of the talks was on workforce development for Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy program, which includes the construction of a major nuclear power plant in the country. The parties discussed key aspects of cooperation, including the possibility of internships for Uzbek energy specialists at Rosatom facilities and the integration of digital technologies in training and human resource management.

The new engineering school at MEPhI’s Tashkent branch is set to become a unique platform for producing experts who will play a leading role in the development of Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy sector.

In addition, experts have drafted a development strategy for the Tashkent branch of MEPhI for 2025–2026, outlining priority areas for the university’s educational and research activities.

Akhmedkhodjaev emphasized that collaboration with the Russian state corporation is essential to implementing Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant project, and called the visit a significant step in deepening bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy.
