Mirziyoyev Invites Slovenian Companies to Join New Special Economic Zone in Uzbekistan

Presidents of Uzbekistan and Slovenia, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Nataša Pirc Musar, took part in a business forum held on May 22 as part of the Uzbek leader’s official visit to Ljubljana, according to his press service.

The event brought together executives and senior managers from over 100 leading industrial and commercial companies from both countries. Among the Slovenian participants were KRKA, Duol, Emo Frite, Panvita, Medex, Tajfun Planina, Altado, UVC Solutions, Riko, and others.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted that Uzbekistan is establishing an industrial park tailored for European enterprises, offering unique conditions for doing business. He invited Slovenian companies to become among the first residents of the new Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

He noted that the high-level talks held earlier marked a new chapter in Uzbek-Slovenian relations, particularly in trade, economic cooperation, and investment. In the current challenging global environment, he emphasized the importance of expanding mutual trade, strengthening industrial cooperation, and diversifying both economies.

Mirziyoyev reiterated the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $500 million in the coming years by expanding the range and volume of goods exchanged—especially those with high added value. In this context, he underscored the need to adopt a joint Industrial Cooperation Development Program in sectors where the two countries’ industries can complement each other.

The president outlined several priority areas for future collaboration:

✅ localization of pharmaceutical production;

✅ manufacturing of electrical equipment;

✅ food production, storage, and processing of fruits and vegetables;

✅ construction;

✅ modernization of green energy infrastructure.

During the forum, in the presence of both presidents, a number of bilateral trade, economic, and investment agreements were signed.

As part of his official visit to Slovenia, President Mirziyoyev also held talks with President Nataša Pirc Musar, Prime Minister Robert Golob, and President of the National Assembly Urška Klakočar Zupančič. The meetings resulted in the signing of several agreements, covering cooperation in areas such as education, transport and logistics, smart city management, standardization, and tourism.
