Georgian football specialist Levan Khomeriki has been appointed head coach of Tajikistan’s Olympic (U-23) national football team, the country’s Football Federation announced.

Under the leadership of the 51-year-old coach, the U-23 squad has begun preparing for the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers. As part of its training program, the team will play two friendly matches: against India on June 18 in Tursunzoda and against Kyrgyzstan on June 24 in Hisor.

Khomeriki relocated to Dushanbe in March this year to serve as assistant to the head coach of the senior national team, fellow Georgian Gela Shekiladze. Initially, Shekiladze was expected to manage the Olympic team as well, but the coaching responsibilities were later redistributed to better balance the workload.

Notably, two players from Russian club Arsenal Tula — Ansor Khabibov and Aleksandr Mukhin — have received their first call-ups to Tajikistan’s Olympic squad.

A former striker, Levan Khomeriki played in the Belgian and Swiss leagues and won the Georgian championship three times with Dinamo Tbilisi, earning recognition as the league’s top scorer. As a head coach, he has led Batumi’s Dinamo and Guria, as well as several Georgian youth national teams. He holds a UEFA Pro coaching license.
