On July 1, one day before Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Baku, the city of Khiva hosted the first Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary forum, Dunyo reports.
Forum participants discussed a wide range of topics, including the role of legislatures in strengthening strategic partnerships, expanding socio-economic cooperation, advancing digitalization and innovation, and promoting collaboration in agriculture, education, healthcare, gender equality, as well as humanitarian and environmental fields.
Several concrete initiatives were proposed and supported, including:
– development of joint recommendations to improve the investment climate,
– establishment of Uzbek and Azerbaijani trade houses abroad,
– regular business missions,
– simplification of visa procedures,
– creation of a digital tourism platform.
The forum concluded with the signing of three key documents:
▶️ the Khiva Declaration, outlining the core principles and priorities for inter-parliamentary engagement;
▶️ a roadmap for parliamentary cooperation for 2025–2026;
▶️ the statute of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission, created to coordinate and implement joint decisions.
On July 2, President Mirziyoyev arrived in Azerbaijan for a state visit, during which he will attend the second meeting of the High-Level Interstate Council and participate in the upcoming summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), set to take place in the city of Khankendi.
