A wind power plant with a capacity of 20 megawatts will be built in the village of Burchmulla (Brichmulla), located in the Bostanlyk District of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent Region. The regional administration (hokimiyat) announced the project in an official statement.

On July 1, regional governor Zoyir Mirzayev signed a resolution allocating 10 hectares of land to the Ministry of Energy for the future wind farm. The project, with a preliminary estimated cost of $28 million, will be funded through grants. The station is expected to generate 129.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

According to local authorities, the wind farm's output will help save up to 811,000 cubic meters of natural gas or 3,150 tons of coal per year. Its favorable geographic location will ensure a high economic efficiency, the hokimiyat added.

That same day, Mirzayev also approved the construction of micro and small hydroelectric power stations at 45 sites, most of them situated on natural waterways, canals, and irrigation systems. These installations are designed to generate electricity with minimal financial outlay.

Unlike large hydropower plants, micro hydropower stations are primarily intended to supply electricity to rural communities. Their development is also expected to create local jobs.

Similar hydropower facilities are planned for 248 additional locations, with land already allocated. In June, the governor approved another 66 sites for the construction of micro hydro plants.

Earlier in June, the World Bank approved a concessional loan of $150 million to support a large-scale project aimed at developing Uzbekistan’s small-scale hydropower sector and improving the reliability of electricity supply.
