The Chinese company China Shandong Huada Group is prepared to invest $500 million in creating a transport and logistics corridor running through Uzbekistan’s Andijan region. The route is expected to pass through the Kurghontepa and Khodjaabad districts, according to the regional administration’s press service.
Agreements on the large-scale project were reached during negotiations between Andijan governor Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov and Chinese business representatives. The plan calls for Chinese partners to establish a rail-and-road route through Uzbekistan for transporting goods from China.
Investors have already inspected sections of the proposed corridor. Both sides expressed hope that cooperation would strengthen transport and logistics capacity, create new jobs, and make a significant contribution to the region’s economic development.
A map presented by the Chinese delegation to Uzbek officials indicated that the corridor would begin in Lhasa, Tibet, cross China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and continue into Central Asia. The project documentation highlights Andijan, Jizzakh, Tashkent, and Samarkand as likely connected by both railway and highway. In addition, a logistics hub is expected to be built in Andijan region, which borders Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting also addressed attracting foreign direct investment for other large infrastructure projects in Uzbekistan’s easternmost region.
