Construction has begun on Uzbekistan's first plant for producing humanoid robots and their components in Tashkent. According to the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 15, 2026, in the «Yangi Avlod» special industrial zone in the capital's Yangihayot district, as part of the fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum.
The plant is being established in partnership with South Korean company Robotis, a global leader in autonomous robotics. According to state television, total investment will exceed $69 million, roughly 11 hectares have been allocated for the facility, and the project is expected to create more than two thousand jobs.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Ilzat Kasimov, South Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan Won Do Yeon, and Robotis President Kim Byung Soo, underscoring the project's status as a flagship of the country's industrial modernization.
The Robotis president said construction is set to be completed by the end of this year, with serial production due to launch in January 2027. All products will be exported to major technology buyers in Japan, the United States, Europe, and Korea. The design and supervision are being handled by the Korean architectural firm HPLUS, which confirmed the ceremony.
The cooperation dates back to October of last year, when the «Uzlidepsanoat» association and Robotis signed a memorandum on developing the robotics industry in Uzbekistan during a business forum in Korea, including the creation of a production base and a training system. Founded in 1999, Robotis is known for developing Dynamixel servos and autonomous robotic platforms; its technologies are used by Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, NASA, Google, Samsung, and BMW. For Tashkent, launching such production marks a bid to gain a foothold in one of the fastest-growing high-tech niches, amid a global boom in demand for humanoid robots.
